Within Merlin we communicate our health, safety and security initiatives under the banner “Protecting the Magic” to encourage engagement and a sense of ownership across the business. Protecting the Magic forms an integral element to our company values which we call “The Merlin Way” and serves to help us achieve our primary goal of delivering safe and memorable experiences to our guests.

We implement extensive health and safety training programmes for employees, including regular refresher training.

The safety culture of an organisation is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies and patterns of behaviour. At Merlin we foster and measure our safety culture through the use of employee surveys and safety maturity frameworks, and raise awareness through regularly Group-wide communications.

In support of our positive and proactive safety culture we have in place some simple, common and company-wide rules which we call our “Six Spells for Safety”. These are our collective golden rules for good health and safety conduct – applicable to all our employees and contractors, no matter their role, and are communicated regularly throughout the business.
