Name: Anne Martin

Job title: Admissions Host

Location: Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Area: Front of House

Current role?

I am a Host in the Admissions Department, and I've been here for 14 years. I look after the turnstiles area at our lodge entrance. I help our guests enter and exit the resort, checking their tickets, and I also give out park maps and help them with directions around the resort. I have learnt many things within my role, mostly the need to respect people and give every family your undivided attention as it makes them feel special.

Best part of working for Merlin?

I really look forward to my days at work as I see lots of people, meeting and greeting them on arrival. As an employee over a “certain age” I feel privileged to be working with employees of all ages. I spend most of my time with the teenagers in my department, whose company I very much enjoy. I also enjoy working in such a different environment where I have the pleasure of seeing all the animals and meeting them up close. I also have a great management team that make me feel very valued.

How have you made a difference?

The most rewarding thing working in admissions is chatting to the families as they enter the park, especially when you see how excited the children are and I love to hear all about the fun they have had when they leave. The skills you need in Admissions are to be friendly, and be ready to answer any questions; you need to be very attentive to all the families you speak with each day. I am very proud to say that I have had wonderful feedback from lots of guests. I think I am now a “senior citizen” I don’t really have a goal other than being happy to do what I do for as long as I can and make a difference to our visitors' day.
