Pirates At Sea Life Centre

Ahoy Lubbers!

pirateA A Sea Life centre next door to the Disneyland Paris theme park is going all skull and cross bones…with a €350,000 redevelopment of its huge tropical ocean display.

As one youngster, seven-year-old Serris boy Timothy Bled (pictured) discovered, the surrounding décor in Sea Life Val d’Europe, could have walked straight off the set of Pirates of The Caribbean.

The redevelopment has also seen a replica of Blacbeard’s pirate ship Queen Anne’s Revenge submerged in the ocean tank, where it is now patrolled by sandbar, black-tipped reef, nurse sharks, three sea turtles  and shoals of colourful reef fish.

Visitors will approach the display through a pirate cave full of stalagmites and stalactites, where a larger-than-life bust of Blackbeard will suddenly come to life and regale them with tales of his murderous exploits.

“We introduce a major new feature every year, but La Légende de Barbe Noire is our most significant new development since we opened in 2001,” said general manager Paul Williams.

“The massive success of Disney’s Pirates of The Caribbean series has certainly got children of all ages fascinated in the whole subject of pirates.

“We are confident this will help attract more children to the Centre where we hope to be able to educate them a little about marine life and conservation issues, as well as entertain them.”

Sea Life Val d’ Europe at Marne La Vallée on the outsirts of Paris, is one of 26 Sea Life centres operated by Europe’s biggest attraction operator Merlin Entertainments.

It also features an Atlantic océan display tank with walthrough underwater tunnel, plus a host more tropical and north European marine life displays.

La Légende de Barbe Noire opens officially on Thursday, March 29th.
